On a Magical Halloween Night

"You're a shining star, no matter who you are
Shining bright to see what you can truly be"
                                                                                           ~EARTH WIND AND FIRE
Isn't that what we all know deep inside? That we are all shining stars?  Isn't that what we want to have affirmed by the magicians in our life?  A magic potion perhaps to drink? A bag of magical coins? A magic sword that will slay  your worst enemy or perhaps something even mightier: a magic  pen that will rewrite your history the way you want to see it?  Or that ever empowering magic staff, topped with the jewel or sign that belies your power source?
This magician presents them all to you...   or does he?   ...on this cold marble altar.
This magician is Giordano Bruno: friar, scientist, romantic writer and friend of Shakespeare, and heretic that was burned at the stake for speaking freely of his thought s and beliefs.  He reminds us that what  is offered has a price. With great power comes great responibility, and the price one pays is often in blood.
Each artifact is one of the four suits. They are the cup, the quill, the disk and the  staff,  and each play a part in the layered story that this Tarot presents. Because before Tarot ever was a parlor game for divining fortunes, or gambling in a game of tarrochi, this was a very special art gallery for adults. A story hidden deeper within each picture, so that when all 78 are put together, a nonlinear, three dimensional story appears. Because it is "visual literacy,"  each reader will interpret the story just a little  bit different. And if the reader sees a little bit of themself, well that's because looking into a piece of art is so much more powerful than looking into a mirror. You will see your reflection looking back at you. And Tarot begins by dividing   4  very different background settings to which the story occurs: Earth, water, air and fire, symbolized by the coin, the cup, the quill, and the staff.
If you were to give a modern title to these ancient four, one would say they are examples of the four different states of particles: solid, liquid, gaseous and photonic. Yet when you look at each you realize that symbolically, these four things are what humanity has wanted to gain power over since the very beginning. Weather  spiritually or scientifically, we raise ourselves to the level of mage in the eyes of the rest of the mundane world. We become the shining star that we always knew we were inside.
I believe on this time of the thinnest veil, Giordano Bruno, would ask you"
" To what ends are you taking these gifts?"
And
"What price as you willing to pay?"
Because there is magic in the Water Earth Wind and Fire.
